BUILDING PERMIT IS REQUIRED FOR:

• New 1 & 2 family dwellings & commercial buildings

• Additions to 1 & 2 family dwellings & commercial buildings

• Remodeling to 1 & 2 family dwellings & commerial buildings

• Electrical service additions, changes, or upgrades

• Any electrical wiring for new construction & remodeling, including agricultural buildings

• Any plumbing for new construction & remodeling

• Any HVAC for new construction & remodeling

• Decks & deck additions

• Detached accessory buildings greater than 150sqft

TOWN ADMINISTRATIVE PERMIT IS REQUIRED FOR: ​

• Agricultural buildings

• Accessory buildings less than 150sq ft​

BUILDING PERMIT IS NOT REQUIRED FOR:

​

• Re-siding 

• Re-roofing, unless it creates a 3rd layer of shingles. A permit is required accompanied with structural load bearing calculations

• Replacing windows or doors of the same size (no structural changes)

• Finishing of interior surfaces (such as kitchen cabinets)

• Replacement of major building equipment, includeing furnaces, central air conditioners, water heaters & any other major piece of equipment

• Normal repair of plumbing, electrical, & HVAC equipment
